This year we’re also celebrating 30 years of National Volunteer Week (NVW), with the week growing to be the largest celebration of volunteers and volunteerism in Australia.

Volunteering Australia CEO Adrienne Picone said, “Australia’s volunteers provide a 450% return for every dollar invested. This is the equivalent of $290 billion in social and economic good. This unpaid workforce provides indispensable support to organisations and communities, and deserve recognition for the substantial social, economic and cultural contributions they make at local, national and global levels.”

To celebrate National Volunteer Week this year, Volunteering Australia is delighted that our patron, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd) and Her Excellency Lady Cosgrove, will host an afternoon tea at Government House on Tuesday 21 May.

“Volunteers make a world of difference to our communities and indeed our nation. National Volunteer Week is a week for all Australians to acknowledge and thank those who give back. On behalf of all Australians, to all the millions of volunteers – thank you,” the Governor-General said.

This year we are also proud to be supported by our National Volunteer Week Exclusive Sponsor Aon Australia. As the approved insurance provider for Volunteering Australia, Aon understands the importance of safety to ensure volunteers can continue to make a difference in Australian communities.

Aon Australia Client Director Gavin Deadman said, “Volunteering is the life blood of the Australian community and stretches across every sector of our society. Aon is proud to support Australia’s hard working and dedicated volunteers by providing insurance solutions for Volunteer Involving Organisations.”
