Volunteers Afternoon Tea

National Volunteer Week will be held from the 8-14 May 2017. Celebrations are held annually to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers. During this week, thousands of events across the country will be held to say thank you to the millions of Australians who volunteer.

Eudunda will be starting the week with Eudunda Community Business and Tourism putting on a free afternoon tea, to thank its many volunteers, in the Eudunda Hall on Sunday 7th May.

5.8 million Australians over the age of 15 years generously spent 743 million hours volunteering across diverse activities in 2014. The ABS General Social Survey results reinforce how important it is to recognise and support people who give their time to help build safer and resilient communities. This is a huge contribution to our nation’s social and economic well-being. In South Australia the 2014 ABS figures show that 36.7% of people volunteer in some way.

Volunteering can be of great value in preparing people for the workplace, changing career pathways, making the transition to retirement, creating links and connections with their own communities, contributing to better health and rehabilitation or supporting family life practices
It is an important mechanism for empowerment through participation in democratic process at the local level. High levels of participation in volunteering is a strong indicator of a healthy society.
